What is a Fair Use Policy?
Remote.It is designed to provide reliable, secure connectivity at scale—from individual users to enterprise fleets containing tens of thousands of devices. This Fair Use Policy explains how we manage shared platform resources to maintain consistent performance, security, and reliability for all customers.
Most customers will never approach the usage thresholds associated with their Subscription Plan. However, because Remote.It operates shared infrastructure, excessive or abusive use may affect the performance, availability, or security of the Service. This Fair Use Policy establishes reasonable usage expectations to help ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for all customers.
Why Do We Have a Fair Use Policy?
Remote.It is designed to deliver reliable, secure, and cost-effective connectivity for customers of every size. This Fair Use Policy helps ensure consistent service quality, protects shared platform resources, and supports the long-term reliability and sustainability of the Service.
Usage thresholds vary by Subscription Plan and are described in current plan documentation. In most cases, customers operating within the intended use of their Subscription Plan will not be affected by this policy.
How Does the Fair Use Policy Work?
Remote.It establishes reasonable usage thresholds based on Subscription Plans. Most customers will never approach these limits. If usage materially exceeds the limits associated with your Subscription Plan, Remote.It may:
- Notify you via email (if provided);
- Request that you reduce Device, Endpoint, or API usage;
- Require you to upgrade your plan;
- Limit or suspend account access after repeated overuse.
Remote.It monitors operational metrics necessary to maintain platform performance, security, abuse prevention, and capacity planning. These metrics may include:
- Number of Devices and Endpoints
- Frequency of proxy or API-based connections
- Total data transferred via proxy
- Account access behavior
Remote.It does not inspect Customer Content for purposes of enforcing this Fair Use Policy. Monitoring is limited to operational and service usage metrics as described in our Privacy Policy. Usage data is retained only as long as necessary to enforce this policy.
Privacy and Data Processing Notice
Remote.It may process usage-related Personal Data such as:
- Device and Endpoint IDs
- API call logs
- Connection timestamps and frequency
- IP addresses for login verification
This processing is performed under Remote.It’s legitimate interest to maintain platform performance and prevent misuse. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with applicable privacy laws, you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, and other Applicable Data Protection Laws, including the rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your Personal Data. To exercise these rights or object to usage-related monitoring, please contact privacy@remote.it.

Nothing in this Fair Use Policy limits Remote.It’s ability to take immediate action where necessary to protect the security, integrity, or availability of the Service.
