What is a Fair Use Policy?
We want our Customers to use the Remote.It Service to connect to their Devices and Endpoints freely. This Fair Use Policy ensures that all users experience a high level of service quality and that system resources are distributed fairly.
While many Customers connect to multiple Devices or Endpoints regularly, excessive usage may degrade performance for others. We monitor usage metrics to prevent abuse and to ensure fair distribution of network capacity.
This policy defines reasonable usage thresholds based on your Subscription Plan and whether the use is for Personal or Business purposes.
Why Do We Have a Fair Use Policy?
Remote.It offers powerful services designed to remain cost-effective. To maintain performance and affordability, we must ensure that no customer overuses shared infrastructure in a way that could impact others.
This policy protects service quality and ensures long-term value for all customers.
How Does the Fair Use Policy Work?
We define usage thresholds for Free and Paid Subscription Plans. Most users will not be affected. If you exceed these limits, we may:
- Notify you via email (if provided);
- Request that you reduce Device, Endpoint, or API usage;
- Require you to upgrade your plan;
- Limit or suspend account access after repeated overuse.
We monitor:
- Number of Devices and Endpoints
- Frequency of proxy or API-based connections
- Total data transferred via proxy
- Account access behavior
This monitoring is done to detect service abuse and is conducted in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Usage data is retained only as long as necessary to enforce this policy.
GDPR and Data Processing Notice
Remote.It may process usage-related Personal Data such as:
- Device and Endpoint IDs
- API call logs
- Connection timestamps and frequency
- IP addresses for login verification
This processing is performed under Remote.It’s legitimate interest to maintain platform performance and prevent misuse. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, rectify, delete, or restrict processing of your data.

Fair Usage Guidelines
You are unlikely to be affected by this policy if:
- Free Plan: You have ≤ 5 Devices or Endpoints and ≤ 100 daily proxy Connections.
- You are not using the Free Plan for Business use.
- Paid Plan: You have ~500 Devices per User account and do not exceed 10GB of proxy data/month.
- All Business users have their own Paid Plan licenses.
- API usage and Device connection rates are within typical averages (contact sales@remote.it for current limits).
Device Sharing Limits
- Free and Professional Plans: Share up to 5 Devices with other Remote.It accounts.
- Business and Enterprise Plans: May share devices freely with other Paid accounts.
- Business/Enterprise Plans are limited to 5 shares total to Free users.
API Usage and Connection Limits
API calls and Device Connections are monitored each Subscription Period. Excessive use may result in:
- Plan upgrade requirement
- Account warnings
- Temporary service limits
Paid Business and Enterprise Plans include increased limits. Contact sales for custom tiers.
Account Usage and Sign-Ins
- Each account allows up to two concurrent sign-ins.
- Account sharing is prohibited.
- Each user must maintain their own credentials.
Additional Guidelines
- Each customer may have one Free account.
- Organizations (LLCs, Incs., non-profits, etc.) must use Paid Plans.
- Free Plans are for personal use or limited business evaluation (≤ 5 Devices).
Impact on Your Account
If your usage exceeds policy limits:
- We may notify you and recommend plan changes.
- Continued overuse may result in connection/device/API limits.
- We may require additional Subscription Fees.
- We may suspend or terminate your account if no action is taken.
Our Rights
If you violate this policy, Remote.It may:
- Contact you to propose remediation;
- Suspend or limit access temporarily;
- Terminate your License Agreement after repeated non-compliance.
We reserve the right to update this Fair Use Policy at any time. Material changes that impact data processing or service limits will be communicated via your Remote.It account or email.
